40k Contest- DreadKnight Contest Entires Vote Now!

Well the due date came and went, and when the dust settled we got in some really awesome entries!

We sold a TON of Dreadknights over on the Spikey Bits store for this contest, it is really cool to see a bunch all converted up. So a big thanks  to everyone who took the time to enter.

Voting is now open for the contest, so please vote for your favorite. We'll keep the polls open until the 27th of May, and then tally up the votes, and award the winnah! Good luck to everyone!

So here's the entries for the Spikey Bits Dreadknight Conversion Contest.

First off we have a Necron Pharaoh by Caleb Dillon, with Resurrection orb and War Scythe.

Tau XL-18 Interdiction Armor, by Jim Howard

 Dreadmonkey by Thomas "Goatboy" Reidy

This is the only entry I allowed two pictures of. I think the first one was too washed out, but showed the conversion work better, so enjoy both. Daemonknight of Slaanesh by Matt Ekola

Soulgrinder of Khorne by Matthew Hoell

Imperial Guard Knight Pattern Walker by Hadi "The Hod" Sheikhnia.

Valkyrie Walker Conversion Michael Millikin

That's it. Like I said pretty stoked at the entries, thanks to all participants.  Please take a minute or two and vote below for your favorite, but before you go I want to let you know about a couple of noteworthy things we got going on here at Spikey Bits.

First off is a Charity 40k Tournament for The Red Cross's Japan Relief fund kicking off Sunday May 15th at FTW Games. If you happen to live in the VA/MD/DC area it is a great way to help out the crisis in Japan just by playing some 40k!

Second is the ongoing charity project I am proud to be part of the Heroes of Armageddon!  Currently I am working on 3000 points of Ghazkull's Orks as we speak.  When time permits I'll post up some WIP shots to wet everyone's whistle.

So that's it, thanks for the read and see ya soon!

  1. I have to say, they're all cleverly done. But the 'Necron Pharaoh' and 'Tau Interdiction' certainly stand out the most to me. Cool themes, thoughtfully built, although the Tau Armour would have benefited from a more solid pose. Despite this, the Interdiction armour wins my vote. It looks like something I would be happy to pilot myself.

  2. They all look great.

I'm going to have to go with the Tau XL-18 Interdiction armor as my favorite.

  3. I agree I am VERY please with the effort put forward.

  4. Jim Howards Tau one is certainly the best looking IMO.

I'm really surprised no one made a Aliens style Power loader one. Thats what I would have done. :P

  5. Imperial Guard Knight Pattern Walker by Hadi "The Hod" Sheikhnia.

  6. The Monkey is great and the
    Pharaoh has tons of character.

  7. When the Boy Genius is happy, we're all happy.

I just notice the great foot detail on the Valkyrie Walker.

  8. I vote for all of them. It's hard to choose but I have a soft spot for Knights so I vote for The Hod.

  9. Great contest, and great results! Seriously, this was a fun one to watch and all the entries are worthy.

Since others are commenting, I have to say my favorite is the Tau Interdiction; awesome idea!

  10. I'm gonna go with Tau interdiction armor, and not because of any bias! :)

It's the most complete looking full change to the model with a great look and plenty of movement.

    Great contest!

  11. Some realy good work here.... very hard to judge on a single click criteria :(

While i would agree that both the the Tau and the Soulgrinder are the most complete transformations i think they are too complete... conversions imo should have some of the original theme.

While the pharoh fits this criteria fantastically....nice job... i feel the cape attachment lets it down (sorry have to pick on the bad points there's too many good points :))

The valkyrie looks a bit too cluttered but i love the leg roosts and the Hod i just don't like the cannon...so petty, it sounds bad... but the modelling is really smooth.

Dread mnkey vs slannesh... i think its down to the imagined paint job... if the wings and daemon were done as an almost invisible ethereal way so as to suggest possesion i think it'd be awesome but then you've got a cheeky monkey....

Damn but thats a hard decision

Well done to all contestants some neat creative work.

I'd love to see the finished paint jobs in the same gallery a little later.

    They all look great though!

  18. and a vote for 'The HOD' is a vote for justice! (and all that fanboi jazz)...

  19. The monkey is going to be painted Orange - with the knight bits either going Tron like or something else neat. Plus someone does have a banana for me to put on the base. WOohoo!

  20. I agree with your train of thought, my only gripe against the slaanesh is the fact that the words on the shin pads and cod piece are not GSed over. It takes away from the Daemon theme IMO

My vote goes to the Monkey.

  21. looks like jim howard wins this one. Nice work.

  22. Imperial Guard Knight Pattern Walker by Hadi "The Hod" Sheikhnia. = my vote

  23. good work too all, necron lord& tau are my top 2 the others had overkill with the guns, and is there a dredknight in that soulgrinder ....were are the orkknights ..

  24. just looked at the necron on ebay omg that is sweet its # 1 in my book

  25. He looks like a bad ass Jokaero who got stuck into the motorpool and armoury while the Inquisitor wasn't looking!

    Nice one dude :)

  26. Jim's Tau got my vote, purely for the fact that it looks like it 'belongs' in the army.

  27. Tau XL-18 Interdiction Armor, by Jim Howard! Great conversion! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. the tau one is the only one IHMO that looks new and professional, the awsome conversion and cool looks beat the others! ( i love the valk one aswell however it looks like a really nice jumble of parts :( )

  29.  Some great bit bashing going on here and for me hands down its the DREADMONKEY.  Second place would go to the Necron Lord as it reminded me of the dark Apostle novel.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Where are the Dreadknight bits on the soul grinder? I can't see any...

Anyway, the Necron Pharaoh by Caleb Dillon gets my vote. It looks like it belongs, without having rendered the original frame entirely unrecognisable (which, IMO, is the point at which you should have just sculpted the damn thing).

The Knight Pattern Walker is a close runner-up, but the cannon arm feels a mite clumsy. Good job on the "nearly," Hod.

  31.  Dread monkey, but the Valkyrie is a close second.

That said, They're all great, and there isn't one I wouldn't be proud to own.

  36. Tau XL-18 Interdiction Armor, by Jim Howard is by far my favorite and I hate tau. Good work on that one Mr. Howard.

  37. I want to vote for the Dreadmonkey as its soooo cool, but I just really love that Necron the most. So... Necron it is! Amazing work by everyone.

  38. They're all good, I have to say that the Tau XL-18 is the best-looking one, though.

  39.  Imperial Guard Knight Pattern Walker. It has history (Knights), detailed finish and to the point idea. This could easily be  imagined a real unit in 40k.Imperial Guard Knight Pattern Walker.
