Plastic Carnifex Screamer Killer?

Posted by Man Boy Genius Friday, March 2, 2012
Welcome to Flashback Fridays, where I dig deep for something cool that I have from back in the day (which according to the comic Dane Cook was a Wednesday).

You always hear the question: "How did you get into the hobby?", and for me it was getting bored with assembling fighter jet models.

I could never afford the good jet kits either, lol. Plus those things had a ton of components, we're spoiled by Games Workshop when it comes to piece count, believe me.

Today I have a two-fer for you, a conversion that is a flashback!

Check out this sweet old school converted Carnifex "Screamer Killer" model.  I found this awesome retro conversion the other day when searching for bug stuff, and though I'd share!

Back in the day, this guy didn't even have a name, it was just known as the Screamer Killer model.  Now Tyranids have almost a full line and they rock.

Here's what this little guy's creator had to say about the model over on Hellric's Nightmare Miniatures,

Hi folks !

Since 2003, I'm member of an excellent forum : Warpshadow. It's a community with an excellent atmosphere, focused on Tyranids; I learned a lot there, I met the best artists  there too (Hivetrygon, M_Pink, Hydra, Terrofex, Moloch, HF Providence, Wormwood, Bocks, and many others, cheers guys ;) ) ; I could talk with people I admire and that inspired me to paint and convert miniatures.

And now, this community, driven by mastermind M_Pink, is working together - as one mind in perfect Tyranid way - to make a huge diorama for Toronto Games Day 2009. The theme is the invasion of Tyran, the first massive encounter with tyranids for the Imperium. For this project, M_Pink has redone a wonderful version of the original Screamer Killer Carnifex (with talons from Bocks), more than twice the size of the original model from Jes Goodwin. And I have the honor and perillous mission to paint this beast in Behemoth scheme.

The Conversion

Well this big bug started as the plastic Carnifex, and then with a lot of love, and Green-Stuff morphed into the monster you see before you.  I like the detail of the barbed strangler protruding out of his gaping maw to represent its Bio-Plasma Attack!

I think the claws may have been custom sculpted and cast as they seem perfectly symmetrical. I mean why sculpt four when you can just do one right? Good idea. A very well done conversion that really seems to capture the feel of the old model!

Three Sixty below, check out the mad green stuff work!

Be sure to check out Hellric's BLOG for tons of other cool Tyranid conversions!

What awesome conversion do you have planned for this weekend's Tyranids release? -MBG

Spikey Bits Blog

Spikey Bits is a blog about the hobby of Warhammer 40k and Fantasy Battles, both tabletop wargames. I try to cover all of the aspects of that hobby from converting and painting models to actually playing the game.

By nature I am a competitive tournament player, but my true passion is converting and painting. I will spend more time making a figure than actually playing with it, lol.

The aim of this blog it to keep me motivated to produce new work, and to share my experiences along the way. I very much value all feedback about my work, and will answer any questions about it.

Feel free to send me an email or post a comment about anything on here.

However please no cursing, first offenses will be edited, second offense results in a ban. You can disagree with me of course, just don't curse!

Thanks for reading, and happy gaming. -MBG
