Checkout this picture of a shoulder pad added in for flavor on the newly released Legion MKIII Squad kit, oh my isn't starting to look a bit...Chaotic?
I maybe wrong, BUT I don't remember seeing that pad anywhere before...
Cross referencing the available Sons of Horus pads, and nothing comes up currently available for sale with this design!
Looks like we have some new "Chaos" designs on the way perhaps? Me gusta! -MBG
It's been a long time sine I read any Horus Heresy novels but here goes:
ReplyDeleteIt's the Eye of Terra (not Terror) which sees into every corner of the galaxy. It is the personal heraldry of Horus which the Luna Wolves adopted when they became Sons of Horus.
It is the Eye Of Terror, not Terra, and to me that looks like a MKII Legion Shoulderpad, it looks a little bit more beat up but IMO Forgeworld goes a little overboard on weathering with some of their stuff.

Sorry, I misunderstood, the Eye that is on the shoulder of the Sons of Horus is actually called "The Eye Of Horus" it is shown in a couple different incarnations but that is what they changed to after the triumph at Ullanor when they became The Sons of Horus. The Eye of Terror is the "wormhole" that leads into the warp.The pictures on FW site for the MKII Legion Shoulderpads are terrible and don't actually show the chunky border that goes along with the MKII styling. This could also be a MKIII shoulder pad considering the troop it is on, and just something that is unreleased. However I think it would be a little premature of them to start releasing "Chaos" models considering their overall appearance never really changed until they became Black Legion after Horus' death. They are also way behind on their release schedule for Primarchs and other Legion related units (Sons of Horus Contemptor Dread, Emperor's Children Contemptor Dread, Sons of Horus Landraider/Rhino Doors). I watch the site like a hawk because I am actually building SoH myself.

Regardlessof what it is or isn't, it's still pretty awesome looking.
